Chasing Fireflies: A Novel of Discovery by Charles Martin

End the summer by reading a terrific book, Chasing Fireflies: A Novel of Discovery by Charles Martin. When police find a mute boy near the scene of a fatal car crash an extended family tries to find out the child’s identity. Since he communicates by drawing pictures, Chase, a reporter, dubs the kid “Sketch.” Since Chase doesn’t know who his parents are, either he works in overdrive mode to help.

Even though Chase, his Uncle, Aunt, and cousin have their own heartaches and mysteries, they ease the youngster into their inner circle. These compassionate and realistic characters linger in my mind. I will read this novel repeatedly and feel like I’m visiting with old friends.

Chasing Fireflies won the Christy Award in 2008.
The book can be borrowed from Zelienople Public Library on Compact Disc.
