I want to go to school
learn to read
ride the bus
make new friends.

Like, I want an "A" in Algebra
no zits
the braces off my teeth.
a totally awesome boyfriend.

I want to go to college
live in a dorm
go to dances
meet the man of my dreams.

I can't wait to get married
buy a house
get a dog
have lots of children.
I want to change my last diaper
sleep through the night
shower before noon
spend an evening of adult conversation.

Just once, I want to finish the laundry
not have to drive anyone anywhere
have enough groceries
turn on a CD and have the base and volume low.

I want the back door to slam
fingerprints on the fridge
a chance to visit with my mom again
a baby to rock.

I would love my descendants to visit-
all at once- for a short time
a piece of high cholesterol pie
a hobby for my newly retired husband.

I would like an aide to move me from this wheel chair
to my bed.
to do my own hair
my old house full of laughter
a hug.
